Professor Jack Zipes and Oxford University Press are pleased to announce plans for the Encyclopedia of Children's Literature. This four-volume illustrated work is scheduled for publication in 2005 and will include over three thousand scholarly articles on various topics. The encyclopedia will be the first comprehensive international reference work in the English language and will include traditional and contemporary subjects relevant for our digital age. The encyclopedia is intended to fill a significant gap in the research infrastructure for children's literature studies for scholars around the world and to last for a significant period of time, and the success of this project depends on the caliber of its contributors. We therefore encourage the members of IRSCL, as top scholars in the field, to ensure the authority of the encyclopedia by writing on topics that fall under your areas of particular knowledge and interest. To facilitate your participation, we have developed a Web page at http://www.us.oup.com/us/brochure/0195146565/?view=usa which we encourage you to visit. There you will find:
Please direct your requests for topics and any questions or comments to Beth Ammerman (by e-mail at Beth.Ammerman@oup.com, or fax to 212-726-6445), who will notify you whether the articles are still available and, if so, will send you a contract within a few days. If you have difficulty accessing the website, she can also send you electronic files or hard copies of documents. The deadline for submission of articles will be in May 2004, and the honorarium is $0.10/word, based on the number of words assigned. We hope you will join us in this exciting endeavor, and we look forward to working with you as the encyclopedia develops. Jack
