Institutional membership is an effective way to support the work of the IRSCL, to disseminate information about the Society's activities and those of its members, and to alert members to relevant activities and resources at each others' institutions. If your university/institution/region has a research centre, library collection or other organisation that reflects the work of the IRSCL, it would be helpful if you would introduce the idea of institutional membership. The annual fee for institutions is just $60 (US).

The Children's Literature Unit at the University of Newcastle, headed by Kimberley Reynolds, in collaboration with Seven Stories: The Centre for Children's Books, made a successful bid to the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council to fund 3 doctoral fellowships over the period 2005-2008. The project is titled ‚The Making of Modern Children's Literature: an investigation into the economic, aesthetic, commercial and technological forces that have shaped the British children's publishing scene since 1945'. The students will be jointly supervised by the University of Newcastle and Seven Stories. Their projects will be based on the Seven Stories collections and in addition to furthering their individual theses, the students will spend 25% of their time working in the collections. The project aims to:
- Address the lack of research and documentation relating to the evolution of the contemporary children's literature scene in Britain
- Provide a rolling series of overviews of the Seven Stories collections of the period of the studentships
- Create research guidelines and pathways for future users
- Contribute to the Centre's research strategy
- Equip students with the practical and intellectual skills necessary to work in related environments including museums, archives, publishing houses, and HEIs.
