INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
THE CHILD IN LITHUANIAN AND WORLD CULTURE
May 17–18, 2007

Currently seeking proposals for both theoretical presentations and discussions of practical research and studies. Deadline for proposals April 20, 2007

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania has proclaimed the year of 2007 as the Year of Children’s Culture. The child’s problems are multi-faceted and have received little discussion in academic forums in Lithuania.. Researchers in different fields (literature, anthropology, culture, languages, philosophy, art, folklore, ethnic culture, education, psychology etc.) are welcome to participate at the conference and to discuss different aspects of the subject.

The proposed topics for discussion:

  • Children’s subculture: formation and functioning, structure and diversity of expressive forms, global and national/ regional marks.
  • Childhood/ childish phenomenon.
  • Child’s picture in art.
  • Reading of children – a sociocultural problem.
  • Development of children’s literature and problems of its genres.
  • Taboo and children’s culture.
  • Didactics and children’s culture.
  • Peculiarities of children’s language.
  • Children’s literature – an important part of literature course at school
  • Relations of text and illustrations in children’s literature.
  • The place of adapted text in reading of children.
  • Scribbling as a phenomenon of children’s literature.
  • Different aspects of children’s culture and their problems: theatre, cinema, library, computers, periodicals, toys, other goods.
  • Advertisements and children: ethical aspect.
  • Motherhood and fatherhood in art.

    We are looking forward both to theoretical presentations and discussions of practical research and studies.
